Montessori Education?

What is

Dr. Maria Montessori created a unique method of early childhood education in accordance with her beliefs that children learn best when surrounded by respectful caring individuals and in an environment that is specifically, thoughtfully and beautifully designed for the young child. Showing great reverence and respect for the development of the whole child, Montessori believed that education should be a preparation for life. That young children need to be surrounded by respectful, caring and nurturing individuals. That learning take place through the senses and is aligned with the child’s intuitive aim of self-formation. Daily experiences in a multi-aged classroom allow each child to discover his own nature, personality, and skills through his individual style and pace. A carefully  prepared environment and exclusively designed curriculum provide consistent opportunities to grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and cognitively.

Montessori teachers create and maintain a dynamic and nurturing environment that encourages cooperation, reasoning, collaboration, and understanding. Through the use of unique Montessori materials that are multi-sensory and often self-correcting, each child is presented with opportunities of conceptual discovery through his own senses. These experiences help guide the child into harmony with the world and he becomes a well-rounded and self-expressed individual.

Teachers are keen observers of individual interests and distinctive learning styles and are experienced in recognizing readiness for new and challenging work. Individual lessons as well as group experiences are provided, based on these observations rather than from a pre-set curriculum.

“The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind.”
